Born and rasied in China, Sam W.K. Zhang moved to Sydney at the age of 16. During the college years, he started to work as a journalist at Sydney-based sports magazine Buckets and later Melbourne-based basketball website starting5.com.au, collecting news, conducting interviews, writing and editing feature content.
After graduating with an Arts degree from University of Sydney, Sam decided to move back to China and joined Chinese streetwear and sneakers publication SIZE as senior editor. Excelling within the editorial field and executing projects with the like of Nike, PUMA, Nigel Sylvester, DJ Clark Kent, Jeff Staple, Big Sean, Ronnie Fieg, and more, Sam was then named as feature director and creative director for SIZE magazine.
In 2014, Sam decided to pursue a new career at HYPEBEAST, excelling in a wider range of editorial fields, including high fashion, design, lifestyle and music. In addition to curating and writing daily news posts and long-form features, he continued to work closely with industry heavyweights and fashion powerhouses, such as PUBLIC SCHOOL, adidas Originals, Jordan Brand, Victor Cruz, Rita Ora, Nic Galway, Nick Wooster and Dave White, producing, coordinating and executing projects.
In 2017, Sam began a new adventure with DAZED China as managing editor for both print and digital, a comprehensive role involving both daily editorial duties as well as planning and creative directing future content. He is in charge of the cover production that features Oh Hyuk, Chris Lee (李宇春), KOHH. Moreover, he works with clients including Dior, Burberry, Alexander Wang, Chanel, LVMH, BMW, MCM, Nike to Create and execute special projects. Unfortunately, the launch of the publication was aborted last minute due to force-majeure circumstances.
In 2018, Sam W.K. Zhang went back working for SIZE Media as editor-in-chief of two publications SIZE sneakers and SIZE style.
